Care Guide for Combed Cotton: How to Keep It Like New
Combed cotton is a premium fiber known for its softness, strength and durability. However, to keep your sheets, towels and bedding looking fresh, voluminous and vibrant over time, it's essential to follow the right care routine.
1. Wash with Care
- Maximum temperature: 40°C – Avoid hot water to prevent shrinking or fiber damage.
- No bleach or harsh chemicals – They can weaken fibers and fade colors.
- Avoid excess detergent – Incomplete rinsing can leave residues that stiffen the fabric.
2. No Fabric Softeners!
This is the best-kept secret: do not use liquid fabric softeners or dryer sheets.
Why? Softeners create an invisible coating on fibers that: - Reduces absorbency (especially in towels) - Accelerates wear and tear - Builds up residue over time With each wash, combed cotton naturally becomes softer. Trust the process!
3. Drying: Air or Tumble Dry
- Air drying: Ideal for maintaining shape and avoiding excess heat.
- Tumble drying: Use medium or low heat. Remove slightly damp for easier ironing (if desired).
- Avoid overheating: can shrink or stiffen fibers.
4. Ironing (Optional)
- Iron with steam while slightly damp for best results.
- Use medium-high heat, suitable for cotton.
- Avoid direct contact with very hot iron on fabric.
5. Storage
- Store your sheets and towels in a dry, ventilated place away from direct sunlight.
- Avoid airtight plastic: can trap moisture and cause odors.
- Use fabric boxes or cedar-lined closets to keep them fresh.
